Center Stage Style of the Week-Volume 3

Welcome to Center Stage Style of the Week, volume 3! I hope you are enjoying this new series! I have had a blast working with my fashion loving friends to bring this to life for you and I am fired up to introduce my guest star this week. She happens to be one of my very favorite people in the entire WORLD!

She's one of my BEST FRIENDS. I lovingly call her my "ride or die".
Introducing, my baby sister Ashley!
She is one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL people I know, inside and out!

She's a proud member of the TEXAS TECH Alumni currently teaching Kindergarten in a school district back in my old hometown area of Dallas/Ft Worth, Texas. Those kids are soooo lucky to have her. She is great with little people. My kids ADORE HER. She's a wonderful Auntie.

Plus, we have lots in common. We share a common passion for make-up and wardrobe, to start. Which is why she is here this week! She wanted to share her current favorite things from my boutique with you all!

Plus, she has an "IN" with the Beibs, if you're interested. (Ok, the "fake" version but man, this is a pretty good likeness if you ask me!)

What did she choose this week to highlight? It was no shock to me that she chose from the brand new Yoga Life Collection. She is totally in to Yoga and is the one that gave me the idea to try it out and stock related items in my boutique. All props to my smart sister!

The Center Stage for this week goes to...The "Begin Again" Yoga Tank and....

The "Warrior Within" Yoga Pant.

Great choosing, Ash.

She's been key for me when it comes to advice on what Yoga items to stock in my boutique. She encouraged me to make sure a bulk portion of the items are ready for wear to work out AND run errands before/after as that is what most people these days are having to do. Always on the go.

Here's what she had to say about this look.

"Yoga active wear is so convenient and comfortable. I can wear it to Yoga, brunch, and shopping without having to go home to change!"

Possibly brunching with JB, sister? Do tell?

**Disclaimer...if any of you local DFW readers happen to stumble upon a pretty blonde enjoying pancakes on the patio with a cardboard Justin figure DO NOT JUDGE....she's a Kindergarten Teacher...jus sayin**

😜😜😜

Thank you for stopping by to catch this week's Center Stage Style of the Week! Have you missed the previous two? Click here to read Volume 1 and here to read Volume 2.

Center Stage Style Of The Week-Volume 2

Here we are, diving in to Volume 2 of the weekly series "Center Stage Style of the Week". Welcome friends! We sure hope the weekend was good to you. It went by FAST for us! Time to dig in and tackle our week.

I am happy to have a special friend as my guest star. Please welcome Julie Bussey Garrett to the blog!

She is a work from home Mommy of two sweet little girls and a fantastic Sponsor to an entire Team of Younique Presenters. I recommend and use Younique products. Plus, I highly recommend Julie to order from. She's so sweet and friendly. She's also extremely knowledgeable and helpful about the product line.

Let's see what she chose from my shop to star the series this week!! Without further delay......

We present to you the Neon Pink Hoodie with the "Balanced Life" Yoga Pants!

One word describes this combination....relaxed.....

Both myself and Vivian own these hoodies and they are the MOST comfortable hoodie I have ever worn. The inside is like a pillow. It's so warm and snugly. I also love it because it's a more oversized fit. You can easily wear it with skinny jeans, yoga pants, leggings and the like and it still covers your "goodies" if you will.

The leggings are a new addition to the boutique and everyone LOVES them. They are a part of our new line of The Yoga Life Collection. You just cannot lose with a good pair of Yoga Pants! This pairing is a great option for throwing on to run errands, to get in a great work out, or to just relax around the house in.

Julie has this to say about why she chose this to be featured this week...

"Who doesn't love a comfy sweat shirt with a cute pair of Yoga Pants!"

Our thoughts exactly, Julie.... Great choice!

Here's Julie's link in case you want to check out Younique and the products they offer.

We will see you back next week for another Center Stage Style of the Week! Until then, have a great week and as always, love to you all!!

Center Stage Style of the Week-Volume 1

Today, I'm kicking off a new weekly series called Center Stage Style of the Week! It'll be a series starring merchandise from the boutique as chosen by myself and guest stars! I'll be reaching out to friends, family, boutique customers, business contacts and YOU (my blog readers) to help bring this series to life! I can't wait to see WHO stops by and WHAT everyone contributes.

We will kick things off with an outfit chosen by my blogger friend Susan Leighton. She's a full time writer and part time explorer. She quit her full time job about a year ago and started writing full time and I can't tell you what a joy her blog has been to read! One of my favorites was a "Dear Celebrity" piece she did which included a segment written specifically to Angelina Jolie's LEG. Yes, her leg...You have to read it to believe it and it's a good belly laugh if you need one!

Check out the post here...

Dear Celebrity

Her and I follow each other on Twitter. She actually saw these two pieces posted at separate times and tweeted me a recommendation to put them together. I could've kicked myself for not thinking of it sooner so THANKS A TON Susan!

The Center Stage this week goes to.....

The "Wish You Were Here" Tunic Dress paired with the "Black and Mint" Aztec Leggings.

This outfit is just fun!

What does Susan have to say about WHY she picked this outfit?

"You can never go wrong with a multi tasker piece like a tunic. Easily able to go from day to night. Plus, grey is such a such a cool, smart, sophisticated alternative to classic black."

Agreed, Susan! Agreed!

Check out Susan's blog and some of her other very entertaining works at

DA DA Duuuuhhh.. Ipsy Review for January! It's Here!

Oh goodness, friends! I went major NERD OUT over my Ipsy this month! I can't wait to tell you what was inside! But first, let me show you! I thought you might enjoy a short video starring Ipsy and all the goodness that arrived inside! It's a fun experience to open your monthly Ipsy package and here's a way for you to experience with me! Yippeeee!!

I feel like Ipsy just "gets" me. Soul and all. (Insert heart emoji)....
I must say, having the Ipsy App installed on my phone has been a delight. I get to "sneak peak" at what's coming. I read up about the bag, itself this month before it arrived. I found it quite interesting looking. Since this month's theme was "Metropolis" the design of the cosmetic bag mimics a skyscraper. It's a silver hue which is extremely handy since it will go with a lot of outfits and purse choices!

This time I got a lip gloss. I really liked this shade. It has such a light hearted aspect to it. It seems like the perfect marriage of peach and pink in the barest of pigments.

Ciate London is a brand I have seen in my Ipsy before. This particular product is a top coat for nail polish that touts it's ability to make your nail polish last longer. I tried it. I can't say that it made my polish last any longer than any other top coat I have tried. I must also admit that I am SUPER HARD on my nails due to all the cooking and cleaning that comes with a family our size plus running my business. My hands never rest!
I will say, I was slightly disappointed in the Manna Kadar Blush product. The shade looked stunning. I wanted to love it so badly but this stuff was hard to blend out. It gathered up and sat in one spot on my cheek as I applied it and seemed to take quite a bit of work to spread evenly. I do like the way the color looks with my fair skin tone though.

Here's when it all got very, very interesting. I got a Smashbox BB Cream! I went total GEEK FEST, SUPER FAN and started squealing when I saw what it was! I have been wanting to try Smashbox foundations for SOOOO LONG NOW! As it turns out, it was worth the wait and then some! The shade was perfect. I love the consistency and I was moved by the coverage offered. You don't often get as much from a BB Cream plus this has an SPF in it as well. That's a very important feature in a foundation.

In this pic, I am wearing the foundation, blush, and gloss from this month's haul. Overall, I liked the combined look. I have a feeling the BB Cream will be a favorite.

I also acquired a collagen serum by Mint Pear. I haven't used it yet but it looks compelling and I want to give it a try on my eye area and check out the results of that.

All products considered, I have to give January's Ipsy two thumbs up! The Smashbox BB Cream alone would've been worth it, to me. I've been blessed with great Ipsy bags for five months now and I sure hope the trend continues!

An Admission Of Struggle and a Huge Lesson Learned.

I've been hiding a secret. I've struggled with whether to share this or not out of fear of criticism but in the end, my desire to help others won out. If me sharing this piece of my life helps even one other person, then it was worth it. I've been suffering from depression. It started shortly after Sophie was born and she is now three years old. Just to give you an idea how long this has been going on.

I've been engulfed in anxiety in my life assignment. I believe, with all my heart, that there certain rolls we are assigned to in life that are of the utmost importance. Among those possible assignments in life are Wife and Mom. Taking on one or both of these titles is uniquely rewarding and just like anything that carries enormous reward, the amount of work that goes in to raising kids and/or being a spouse is immense. The pressure to be successful and to meet everyone's needs at home can be overwhelming at times to just plain crippling some days.

I recently realized a critical error I've been making. If I wasn't so stubborn, I would've listened to God's voice in my head trying to show me how to experience some relief some time ago but I let "baggage" from my abusive childhood perform as a road block until a few months ago. I finally had enough of feeling drained all the time and decided to take steps in a positive direction. I wish I would've done it much sooner so I'm sharing my experience with you in the hopes that you will learn from my mistake and use it to better your situation if you can.

What God was speaking to me, over and over again was to stop being so afraid. He was telling me to learn to lean on and reach out to PEOPLE once again! I had shut anyone out from getting too close to me except a very small circle, many many years ago. A lot of you that have already been reading my posts know that I spent many of my child hood years in a house full of abuse. Like many situations that are similar, my abusers sought to alienate me from others. Often telling people things that would make them not want anything to do with me just to make sure I never developed too many confidants. For me to confide in others could mean that the secret of the abuse might be found out. Successful in keeping me an emotional prisoner, the abuse went on. As it continued, I went from a complete people person and extrovert to an introvert, terrified of the world around me and always self conscious anytime someone would make eye contact.

I was mostly surrounded by toxic people and I learned not to share anything but positive news, lies, or a mixture of both with the very few "virtuous" people I had managed to keep around. My abusers had chased off anyone that I vented the slightest problem at home to. I was left feeling very much alone, believing people were either rotten or couldn't be fully trusted, and that was just my reality. If I did happen to meet someone that seemed nice and kind, I was a skeptic and never let them get too close. It almost took an act of Congress for me to speak to anyone new. Even though, deep down, I wanted to so badly. Don't get me wrong, I was quick to put on a smile and make small talk with just about anyone! The problem with that is, life isn't all sunshine and roses. Issues come up. Catastrophe can happen. Stress can pile up and everyone needs people to talk to at some point.

I FINALLY listened to God's voice, pulled myself up by my boot straps, and starting admitting to some of my friends that I was struggling and guess what? I received nothing back but positive words and support. I even learned that some of them were struggling in their own way too! I'm also noticing how many pleasant people there really are in the world if you just CHOOSE to find them. I'm not so naive that I'm no longer aware that there are lots of devious folks still lingering but I am learning from my past enough to implement some strategies. Here's what worked for me so I am passing it on to you!

  1. YOU MUST REMOVE as many toxic people from your life as absolutely possible. Stop feeling guilty about it and just DO IT!
  2. On that note, learn to use the DELETE and BLOCK features on social media. They work! They are awesome tools! Use them!
  3. For those people that you simply can't avoid contact with that are poisonous (we all have that problem) you MUST learn to act like a DUCK and let those people and their actions roll off your back so you don't dwell on the negative and move on with your day! Can I just tell you how liberating that is! When I use the term learn, that's just what I mean. It's a learned habit. It doesn't happen instantly.
  4. Don't be afraid to meet new people! Think of yourself as a gardener always planting new seeds and plucking out weeds.
  5. Share your struggles! If you do and find that the person you are choosing to share with is constantly "judging" you or saying noxious things to you when you confide in them then STOP SHARING your struggle stories with that person and find someone supportive to share them with.
  6. STOP WORRYING about what others think of you! Another one easier said than done, right! I've learned a saying recently. "What Other People Think Of Me Is None Of My Business." Seriously, think about that one. Another person's thoughts are their property. Owned by them and NONE of your concern. They aren't even about you, really. The way they think of others is about them! Isn't that just FREEING! If that thought doesn't free you from worrying about someone's opinion of you then, I'm not sure what to say!
In a world full of bad news and people that want to spread bad vibes, just learn to be more like tea sipping Kermie.....

God designed us for each other.

To support, love on, and learn from each other. I forgot about that for a very long time, living in a form of seclusion and that's not a healthy place to live. I cannot describe to you how badly I felt and how much better I am feeling with each passing day having implemented these strategies and actively seeking to filter out negativity any chance I can get. My environment is a 180 degree difference from my past and I only see brighter days ahead.

I hope you gain something from this. I also hope if you did, and you know someone else that's having a hard time right now in a similar situation, that you will share this post with them. It might just help them turn a brighter corner....

Have you ever been blue for a prolonged amount of time?

What steps did YOU take to feel better!

Leave me a comment and tell me your experiences! I might just learn something and I have so much left to learn!

As always, love to you all!

Stacey

Ipsy For December. Drum Roll. Will Ipsy Stay Or Will It GO??

Oh Ipsy, my Ipsy. This is my last month of the subscription my Mom got me for my Birthday back in September. I have to decide whether I want to pay for it myself from here on out. I have to admit, it's been a BLAST! I had been hearing about Ipsy quite frequently prior to getting it for my Birthday this year. I was so excited to try it out! I've gotten some amazing products, including some that had been on my "want to try" list for a very long time. I can only call that the gift that keeps on giving!

December's bag included a familiar face in the form of eye shadow and a little gem that made me squeal when I saw it plus, another great lip product! Oh Ipsy, my Ipsy. You have yet to disappoint!

The actual cosmetic bag the products came in appears low key this month but looks can be deceiving. It's all about texture. It has a great soft and fuzzy feel to it. The color is really pleasing to the eye as well. It's meant to double as a clutch for your Holiday events!

The first thing I noticed about the products inside was the eye shadow. It's a NYX product! NYX is a beauty on a budget brand that is highly thought of by make-up enthusiasts. It's affordable and yet, comes recommended by just about everyone I know that is knowledgeable about cosmetics. I received "Punk Heart" in my Ipsy bag which is a shade of purple. It's just lovely!

I also noticed that I got another AWESOME liquid lipstick! I am ALWAYS excited to see a new lippie! This one is a Purplish-pink shade called "Pin Up" by Ciate London. I love the shade. The precision tip on the wand makes for easy application. Even if you are new to liquid lipsticks, which tend to be a little more difficult to put on then say, your gloss or stick.

Then came the piece de resistance. Highlighting and contouring are super popular these days. I have spent some time playing around with it and definitely notice a difference when I apply the technique VS when I don't. I have such pale skin that it's really hard to find a bronzer and highlighter that don't make me look orange or too dark. So I have to be very careful what I choose to use. This Josie Maran Illuminizer is flawless. It's by far, my most favorite product from my Ipsy bag this month!

Here I am wearing the NYX eye shadow, the Ciate Liquid Lipstick and the Josie Maran Highlighter.

Also featured in my bag this month were... Marc Anthony Nourishing Argan Oil and Ren Clean Skincare Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask to wrap up December's goodies. All in all it was another strong month for Ipsy. Time to make the decision on whether to keep it and pay for it myself or not... and the decision is.....

YES!!

For the price I feel like it's a marvelous deal. I have received items that I was running out of, intended to purchase soon, or were on my wish list that would have cost me a lot more. Plus I get a cosmetic bag every month to switch out to! That's winning in my book!

I will carry on my Ipsy reviews as long as I am receiving the subscription and I hope you all have found it helpful!

Traditions & Celebrations. Then Let's Talk Breastfeeding Etiquette

The Month of December is a very busy one at our house. Not only do we have Christmas traditions that we carry out but we now have the addition of Sophie's birthday to add to the mix! (She was my Christmas Eve, Eve baby. That's a whole 'nother story for a whole 'nother time. It's a doozy. I'll save that one for another day.) This year, my kid sister from Ft Worth was able to come for a December visit. We don't always get to spend time together during the Christmas season, so we decided to celebrate our favorite December traditions AND Sophie's 3rd birthday the weekend she and her family were able to be here. I was so happy to have them join us. It was a great time.

One of the biggest traditions we have is Annual Cookie Bake Day! My little sis and I grew up with this tradition. My Mom would take us to visit one of my Aunts. All the other Aunts and cousins would be there and we would all decorate cookies, listen to music and have a great time together. It's definitely one of my favorite child hood memories from a time when I was very little, before my world turned upside down. So I cherish it very much and looked forward to passing the tradition on to my own children.

It seems like my little crew of participants keeps growing too! If you have little kids, this is a great activity for them. They have a blast decorating each cookie just the way they want it. We had to drag Sophie (literally kicking and screaming) away from the table when it was time to move on to something else.

If we keep growing like we have been, I'll have to separate the group into ages and form a "kids" table just so everyone can fit!

Right after the cookie decorating we did a gift exchange. My sister and her family usually exchange gifts with myself and my big family but as my family has grown, it's getting harder and harder to keep up with so many purchases so we came up with a great idea for this year. We drew names! It was really great to see how well we all know each other. We all did a wonderful job giving our special person a gift suited perfectly to them. My 9 year old son, Little John, drew my name. He got me an adult coloring book and coloring pencils! I cannot WAIT to use them!

The very next day we celebrated Sophie's 3rd Birthday! I cannot believe she is 3 already. The time just flies by. The theme for her party was Paw Patrol! She and the Grand baby loved the Paw Patrol masks I picked up at Party City.

And I couldn't help but put one on too. When it comes to my family, I'll make a fool of myself and never apologize! We had finger foods for the starter course then for dessert, cupcakes and a make your own sundae bar! It was a BLAST!

I convinced myself I was going to rest the next day......

My sister and her family along with my oldest daughter, Amber made plans to travel in to Houston on Monday to go to The Galleria Mall which is about 1 1/2 hours away from where we live. I planned on spending the day pretty low key at home. In true Stacey fashion, I ended up going to the mall. I've never been to The Galleria. I love experiencing new things with my sister so I couldn't resist!

The Galleria Mall is AMAZING! I saw stores in that mall that I have only ever previously seen on TV. We are talking stores with their own private security right at the front entrance. Being the weekend before Christmas, it was super packed but we forged on. It was another really cool experience! It even had an indoor ice skating rink. I want to take the kids back one day to skate. It looked really fun!

At one point, Ashley (my little sister) said "Look up there! It's a HOTEL! INSIDE THE MALL!!" Whoa! That's both clever AND convenient! I wonder how much a night's stay at one of those costs? Maybe one day! I even got to visit Sephora again. I am convinced that Sephora is a make-up junkie's dream. I seriously got overwhelmed when I walked in. It was only my 2nd time being in a stand alone version. I'm going to start making a "dream list" of items I want. There's just too much to try and buy at one time. I just want to play with ALL THEIR STUFF!

I loved that this Mall had so many different eateries to choose from as well. From everyday places like Taco Bell and Chipotle to french bakeries like La Madeleine, your group can eat together or you can each eat something different. Ashley and I decided to try a place called Sultan Pepper. I really like Mediterranean food when it's fresh and cooked properly but it can also be a huge disappointment if you find a place where the menu items are poorly cooked. I had a lamb and beef Gyro. It was fresh and tasty. The meat was well seasoned and oh so tender. The bread was soft. The sauce was exceptional. Plus the employees were very friendly and the service was remarkable. If you like Mediterranean, add this place to your list!

If I had ANY complaint about my experience at the mall that day, it would have to be the obnoxiously rude woman I "met" during our visit. Let's use this experience as a lesson in breastfeeding etiquette.

I took Sophie and Emma to Houston with me that day. I wanted to give my husband a day "off". Emma is breastfed so anytime I am out and about for a prolonged period of time, I have to search for a place to feed her at some point. I am an AVID believer that women should be able to breastfeed where ever they are comfortable. For me, that means somewhere private and quiet if I can find it. I was thrilled to find a room for breastfeeding Moms to use inside The Galleria! It had a baby changing station inside as well as a small couch to sit on and it was empty and ready to use just when I needed it. The room was tucked inside this public waiting type area filled with places to sit and restrooms around the corner. As I was going in to the special room to feed Emma, the sitting and restroom area nearby was packed with people though no one was in wait for that particular room. I was glad the BF room had a lock on it for my privacy with all those people around.

My intent was to breastfeed Emma as quickly and efficiently as possible in case some other Mom came along and needed the room. This isn't a huge obstacle these days. Emma is almost 10 months old and eats regular food now too so she doesn't breastfeed very often or for very long at a time. We are usually really fast! I was in the middle of her feeding when someone bangs on the door. I say "Someone is in here." About a minute goes by and banging starts again. I say "Someone is in here". A minute or two later, same thing. Then, someone starts violently wiggling the door handle trying to get in. By this time, I am raising my voice to let them know that someone is in the room hoping the banging and handle wiggling stops. I am concerned that a line is forming outside the door so I finish feeding Emma and quickly change her diaper so the other Moms can feed their littles also. As soon as I open the door, I see ONE MOM standing there. She has one baby that looked to be about 1 year old in her arms. The baby isn't crying so I'm not sensing an emergency situation. She also had a small child with her and it didn't seem like anything was wrong with him either. The door wasn't even fully open when she charges passed me, almost knocking me over and proceeds to enter the room and shut the door, practically in my face.

I was caught completely off guard. I looked around, stunned and the crowded room full of people were shaking their heads. I walked over to my family who had been sitting outside the door waiting on me and they were annoyed to say the least. They told me the woman was repeatedly knocking on the door even after being told by my sister n law, more than once that someone was inside trying to breastfeed and when that didn't get me out, she had her small child knock and wiggle the handle. Even the strangers in the room were flabbergasted. I usually encounter very friendly and supportive people when it comes to them finding out I am breastfeeding my baby. This wasn't supportive at all. This is a breastfeeding etiquette FAIL, ladies! When encountering a breastfeeding Mom, please try and adhere to these simple rules. These are not a complete set of rules but you can certainly use these to get you started in the right direction.
  1. Be kind.
  2. Be patient.
  3. Use common sense.
  4. DON'T BE A JERK!!
I stress #4 the most. I am proud of myself for not causing a scene. There once was a time when I was a very confrontational person. It took years for me to change and I am glad I did but the nerve of some people just astounds me at times. I wasn't going to let that one thing define my day but shame on whoever she was for behaving that way!

Moving on. By the end of the day we were all hungry (again) and exhausted. We stopped for a quick bite at another place I have never eaten called The Shake Shack! Burgers and shakes for everybody! Then we headed back home.

The next morning, my sister and her family headed back to Ft Worth. Another set of memories and adventures down in the books! We were sad to see them go and we can't wait to see them again! For now, it's time to get this house together for the next big thing. CHRISTMAS!!
